Members that are 65 years old or older or are essential workers in phase 1c are eligible to receive the one dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine.  This event will be held on:

URGENT. Maui Council is planning to pass a bill that will produce less housing projects on Maui. We need your voice to stop Bill 10!

How does this affect you?

• Passing Bill 10 means less housing, less jobs and more locals moving out of Maui.
• This bill means less jobs for our members. If our members do not have jobs, everyone loses (retail, restaurants, etc). 
• It means more members will look to the government for financial assistance.
• Maui has a housing shortage.  Less affordable housing projects mean less places for our members and local people to live on Maui.

Operating Engineers Members Organize Toy Run For Kapiolani Medical Center

The Kapiolani Medical Center received dozens of brand new toys yesterday by over 70 motorcycle riders to give out to the little patients that come into the hospital. Local 3, District 17 members organized the toy run as a way to give back to the community during these unprecedented times. The drive coordinator was Local 3 member Michael Akau, who is also the State Administrator for the Hawaii Operating Engineers Journeymen and Apprentice Training Center (OE3 JATC).

“It’s important for use to give back,” said Michael Akau.

“We feel construction has been essential, and we’re blessed to be able to continue working. So it’s our way with our motorcycle community to give back to the keiki.”

We are proud of all of our union members that participated in this event and other volunteer events and thank them for going over and beyond during these uncertain times.

During this joyful holiday season, the Hawaii Operating Engineers Industry Stabilization Fund extends our best wishes for a healthy and happy new year to you, your friends and family. As we celebrate in our different ways, we can all be thankful for the solidarity that gives us strength to fight for what is right.

As the decade comes to a close, we’ve made incredible strides at Local 3. This year has been like no other. But we’ve remained united and steadfast and fought back when necessary and now we’ve emerged more engaged and stronger than ever.

2020 EMPOWERING OPERATING ENGINEERS DRIVE THRU EVENT

Oahu’s EOE event will look a little different this year amid the corona virus pandemic. We welcome all active Local 3 members and retirees to take part in District 17’s 2020 EOE Drive Thru Event where you can drive to the Kapolei hall between 9 and 11 am and receive a gift card and other small items from the safety of your car.

It’s not too late to turn your ballot in!

You can drop off your voted ballot in-person to a voter service center or to a place of deposit. The deadline to drop off your voted ballot at a voter service center or place of deposit is 7:00 pm on Election Day, November 3, for collection by your County Elections Division. What’s the next step?

Once you’ve filled in your ballot, you must prepare your ballot for return. Re-fold your ballot, seal it in the secret ballot sleeve, then place the secret ballot sleeve in the return envelope and sign the return envelope. Voters must sign the return envelope for the ballot to be counted.

Ballots must be received by the Clerk’s office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, but should you decide to mail in your ballot, it is strongly recommended that you send it in by October 27.

You should receive your mail ballot packet by October 16, 2020. Beginning October 1, 2020, you can check the status of your mail ballot packet and your voted return envelope at https://ballotstatus.hawaii.gov/

Register to vote

If you haven’t registered to vote, there’s still time. Voter registration deadline is Monday, October 5, 2020. You can register one of three ways: 1) Go to Hawaii’s Office of Elections website at https://elections.hawaii.gov/ and register completely online or 2) print out a voter registration application form from the same website, fill it out and mail it/drop it off or 3) pick up an application from an election office, U.S. post office or most state agencies fill it out and mail it/drop it off. Just be sure to complete your registration form and turn it in by October 5, 2020.

FLU SHOTS FOR UNION MEMBERS

On October 3rd and 4th, the Labor Community Service Program in partnership with My Health Solutions will be providing a Drive Through Flu Shot Clinic at Kakaako Waterfront Park.  The LCSP will vaccinate 1000 insured and 1000 uninsured people on a first come first served basis. If you are uninsured, please bring your union ID card. You must fill out the release and consent form prior to the event.

This week is American Construction Safety Week.  As such, Operating Engineers Local 3 understands that safety is everyone’s responsibility and we take this responsibility seriously. We will continue to work with our members to ensure that we continue to follow safety protocols on our jobsites, at home and when we’re in our neighborhoods.
